NWL Cleans Up With New Use For Decra Guard
Following an intensive period of testing, North Western Lead Co has found that its ever popular Decra Guard glass cleaning system has another unique application - to reduce the amount of oxidation on the surface of self adhesive lead after it has been applied, even if the joints are soldered.
Although not a common problem, oxidisation can occur when self adhesive lead is installed in areas where the rain is particularly acidic and if it rains shortly after the leaded unit has been fitted. The end result can be unsightly lead which spoils the look of the decorative glass application.
The Decra Guard cleaning system, which has been used for many years to help keep glass clean by repelling water and stains, was tested by NWL on leaded panels to see if it could help overcome the problem of oxidisation. Half the leaded panels were treated with Decra Guard, while the other half were left untreated.
After monitoring the panels closely for three months, NWL found that the ones that had been treated with the Decra Guard system showed much less sign of oxidisation and if the lead had oxidised, it could be easily wiped off with a cloth.
